The Pianotta beach in Porto Azzurro, Island of Elba

The small Pianotta beach is located at the end of the seafront in the village of Porto Azzurro and is very popular for its comfort and transparent water. The beach is easily reachable on foot and its 40 meters of shoreline are characterized by a fine gravel with rocks on the sides suitable for sunbathing. This little beach gem is totally free and without services but behind it, in an area not accessible to cars, there are bars and restaurants open for lunch. Although frequented mainly by locals or by those staying in the nearby houses, it’s also visited by those who have just finished (or are about to do) the Carmignani walk, whose path starts just a few meters further on the Pianotta beach.

In the months of July and August it is always very crowded and finding a free corner is very difficult, but around aperitif time someone always gets up and that is the best time to enjoy it: the noise decreases, the heat is not oppressive and the water at the right temperature! It will invite you to immerse yourself and to observe, in the quiet that the setting of the sun can give, the beautiful view of the Gulf of Mola, the promontory of Naregno and Forte Focardo. During the Blue Night, the most complete summer party in Porto Azzurro, there are those who, at the Pianotta beach, also indulge in refreshing night dives, justified by the nearby “foam party”, one of the main attractions of the evening.

This year, due to the pandemic situation we are experiencing, the municipality of Porto Azzurro has set up umbrellas and deck chairs, adequately spaced and free of charge for both tourists and residents.
